James Gustave Speth joined the Brennan Center for a conversation on his third book, "America the Possible," which presents an unsparing analysis of our nation's growing crisis. Not only do we face a multitude of difficulties — polarized politics, an overextended military, widening inequality, and accelerating climate change — but these hastening ills have the potential to reinforce each other. There is an urgent need for a new direction: a new course toward an attractive and plausible future that we can still realize. The conversation was moderated by the Brennan Center's Fritz Schwarz. The Brennan Center invites speakers with a variety of viewpoints on a wide range of subjects in its events’ series. The views of the speakers are their own, and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Brennan Center.
